GUIDELINES FOR VALVES IN TRITIUM SERVICE

Some undesirable practices and misapplications that caused valve-relat ed failures are examined, and future courses of action are recommended to avoid repetition of these events. Desirable valve characteristics and practices that should be considered when selecting valves for use in tritium service are also discussed. Supporting logic for the desira bility of these features is presented by discussing the mechanisms of valve degradation followed by examples of related events. Desirable va lve and system features and operational actions are grouped into two c ategories: strongly recommended and recommended.
