Abstract
The objective of this research is to investigate practices followed by Brazilian library schools in training librarians in undergraduate, ex tension, specialization, and graduate programs to use computers. The p reliminary results presented here contain information on courses and s yllabi, the academic profile of instructors, the computer resources av ailable, and a historical profile of computer training in Brazil. Data were collected through questionnaires and through a survey of the lit erature. The study critically analyzes the job market, the professiona l profile of librarians, and new technology to form a picture of prese nt conditions. The conclusion discusses proposals for follow-up and fu rther study.
