A novel chelating stationary phase with acetylacetone moiety grafted t
o the silica gel was synthesized and employed for chromatography of me
tal ions. 8-Hydroxyquinoline was used as a mobile phase additive for d
etection and separation purposes. The retention of the analytes is gov
erned by in situ complex formation and is affected by the acidity of a
mobile phase and the concentration of 8-hydroxyquinoline. The optimum
pH range and that of 8-hydroxyquinoline concentration needed to obtai
n the best results of analysis were determined.
