Abstract
The recent analytical literature on the application of luminescence te chniques to the measurement of various classes of environmentally sign ificant chemicals has been reviewed. Luminescent spectroscopy based me thods are compared to other current techniques. Also, examples of rece ntly developed applications of luminescence to environmental monitorin g are provided. The advantages and disadvantages of luminescence measu rements for field screening measurements are discussed.
