J. Bally, INFRARED AND SUBMILLIMETER SEARCHES FOR EXTRA-SOLAR PLANETARY SYSTEMSFROM ANTARCTICA, Astrophysics and space science, 212(1-2), 1994, pp. 395-406
Large single-dish telescopes and long baseline interferometers operati
ng at mid-infrared to sub-millimeter wavelengths may provide the best
opportunity to search for planets and protoplanets during the next sev
eral decades. The interior of Antartica may be the best place to deplo
y such instrumentation, providing a viable compromise between the cost
s associated with space-based deployment and site quality.
