We present studies of the electronic properties (eigenstates and local
densities of states) for quantum wells and superlattices grown along
the [100] and [311] directions, for different thicknesses of the const
ituent materials. Analogies and differences for both cases are present
ed and discussed. The calculations are performed by means of empirical
tight binding Hamiltonians, including spin-orbit coupling, and the su
rface Green function matching method.
