Abstract
A solution was obtained for the problem of polarization of a layer of ions adsorbed on the surface of a particle with a moderate (comparable to the threshold) external field strength E. It was shown that in the model of surface charge formation examined, the average electrokineti c potential decreases as E increases. The optimum particle shape for w hich the threshold field value decreases was determined and a method w as suggested for obtaining an analytical solution of the problem for h igher values of E.
