Hj. Klimisch et al., A SYSTEMATIC-APPROACH FOR EVALUATING THE QUALITY OF EXPERIMENTAL TOXICOLOGICAL AND ECOTOXICOLOGICAL DATA, Regulatory toxicology and pharmacology, 25(1), 1997, pp. 1-5
The evaluation of the quality of data and their use in hazard and risk
assessment as a systematic approach is described. Definitions are pro
posed for reliability, relevance, and adequancy of data. Reliability i
s differentiated into four categories. Criteria relating to internatio
nal testing standards for categorizing reliability are developed. A sy
stematic documentation of evaluating reliability especially for use in
the IUCLID database is proposed. This approach is intended to harmoni
ze data evaluation processes worldwide. It may help the expert in subs
equent assessments and should increase the clarity of evaluation. (C)
