Effect of ultradilute HNO3 on the stability of YBa2Cu3O7-x is studied.
Uncoated and Polymethylmeth acrylate (PMMA) capsulated by plasma poly
merization of monomer (MMA) YBCO samples are treated with 50 and 100 m
umol HNO3 acid for 6, 12, and 24 h. The stability of high-T(c) cuprate
s is examined by XRD, TGA, SEM, and measurements of T(c) and oxygen co
ntent. Results indicate that polymer encapsulation by plasma polymeriz
ation is quite effective in retaining the stability of the high-T(c) c
uprates.
