Abstract
Oxidative addition of allyl halides to Ru(cod)(cot) (cod = 1,5-cyclooc tadiene, cot = 1,3,5-cyclooctatriene) in the presence of trimethylphos phine at 50 OC in benzene gives Ru(eta(3)-allyl)(PMe(3))(3)X (X=Br, Cl ), which reacted with PhCHO to yield homoallylic alcohols, and with CO to afford an eta(2)-acyl complex, RuBr(CO)(PMe(3))(2)(eta(2)-COCH2CH= CH2), and an (eta(1)-allyl)ruthenium(II) complex, RuBr(CO)(2)(PMe(3))( 2)(eta(1)-allyl).
