Abstract
A novel system for measuring, simultaneously, ciliary beating and intr acellular free calcium is presented. The advantages and dynamic nature of the system are demonstrated by measuring the effects of the calciu m ionophore lonomycin and of extracellular ATP on ciliated rabbit trac hea. The results are discussed with regard to the ciliary and calcium stimulation.
