A classification is given of the main methods of controlling the cente
ring of lenses and lens systems. The advantages of interference method
s of centering control are shown, and a detailed analysis of a number
of interference devices, based on to the interference schemes of Newto
n, Fizeau, Haidinger, Twyman-Green, Fabry-Perot, including shearing in
terferometers, is given. The conditions of using various centering con
trol schemes are determined, a comparative estimate of their accuracy
characteristics is given, and the main directions of improvement of hi
gh-accuracy interference systems of automated centering control are ou
tlined.
