Sleep influences on waking abnormal movements. Sleep decreases conside
rably the abnormal movements seen during waking in the degenerative ex
tra-pyramidal diseases. However, the electrophysiologic recordings rev
eal that muscular contractions are not completely abolished. This decr
ease parallels the reduction of the waking system which act likely as
a non-specific system of amplification. One can notice that sleep modi
fyes the characteristics of the parkinsonian tremor and that some pala
tal myoclonias persist during sleep.
