Abstract
The known localization of the Landau orbitals due to the presence of s cattering defects is shown to lead to incommensurate spatial fluctuati ons of the local magnetic field in the quantum limit of high applied f ields H. The corresponding line broadening is predicted to increase wi th H and should be observable in muon spin rotation experiments in sem imetals. Preliminary data on bismuth support this prediction.
