Rl. Frankeny et al., BILATERAL TIBIAL METAPHYSEAL STRESS-FRACTURES ASSOCIATED WITH PHYSITIS IN A FOAL, Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 205(1), 1994, pp. 76-78
Physitis may be characterized by distal metaphyseal flaring, signs of
pain on palpation of the affected areas, generalized lameness, stiffne
ss, or even an inability to stand. Transient fragility of the junction
between the zone of cartilage cell hypertrophy and the zone of matrix
calcification on the metaphyseal side of the physis may result in met
aphyseal stress fractures.
