Abstract
Selective extradiol oxygenation of 3,5-di-tert-butylcatechol 1 with O- 2 catalysed by Fe2+ is achieved in THF in the presence of water; the d ifferent selectivity obtained by FeCl2 and FeCl3 in THF-H2O and THF-py ridine supports the explanation of the intra- and extra-diol oxygenati ons by Fe3+ and Fe2+, respectively, as proposed in the enzymatic syste ms.
