The solids flux theory of thickening has traditionally been used for s
edimentation basin design in the activated sludge process. However, it
s use for analysis of decanter behaviour in operating plants has been
overlooked due to the extensive data requirements and complex graphic
analysis. This paper presents a single method to obtain the equations
which describe stream concentrations of supernatant and settling as a
function of input concentration, implied flow rates, and physical char
acteristics of the plant.
