Abstract
Procedures developed to transform the genome of animals have improved
our fundamental understanding of the mechanisms of gene expression. Te
chniques in molecular biology are now allowing transformation with for
eign genes that code for proteins of high value to the pharmaceutical
and healthcare industries. This review describes some of the experimen
ts carried out in this exciting area, and some prospects for this tech
nology in the future.
