J. Lubczak, REACTIONS IN THE SYSTEM (HYDROXYMETHYL)MELAMINES-OXIRANES .2. CONDENSATION, Indian journal of chemistry. Sect. B: organic chemistry, including medical chemistry, 33(7), 1994, pp. 651-656
This work is the second report on the system (hydroxymethyl)melamine (
HMM)-oxiranes reacting in non-aqueous media (DMSO) in the presence of
triethylamine catalyst. Both a kinetic model and mechanism of condensa
tion of hydroxymethyl groups have been proposed. The condensation is c
atalysed by alcoholane anions formed in the addition step of HMM to et
hylene or propylene oxide. No condensation has been found to take plac
e during addition of HMM to glycerin epichlorohydrin (ECH). Oxirane ri
ng in ECH is reformed instead at the expense of catalyst deactivation.
