Abstract
The sulfoxide 1 on treatment with trifluoroacetic anhydride (TFAA) in dichloromethane at room temperature undergoes regiospecifric rearrange ment to benzo[c]thiophen-1(3H)-one (2). Compound 2 is also obtained in a high yield from the reaction of sulfide 7 with oxalyl chloride.
