Abstract
This paper deals with the application of the coupled finite-infinite e lement discretization in an elasto-plastic analysis. The infinite elem ents tending to infinity both in one or two directions have been exami ned for the analysis of a soil-structure interaction problem. The stud y reveals that the infinite elements tending to infinity in both direc tions lead to a problem of instability.
