Abstract
The reaction of piperidones (1) with ethyl alpha-(bromomethyl)acrylate under Reformatsky conditions furnishes, instead of the anticipated sp iro alpha-methylene-gamma-butyrolactones (2), the N-substituted piperi dones (3). Their structures have been determined by mass, H-1 NMR and C-13 NMR spectral data.
