Novel 3alpha-benzamido-bicyclo[3.3.1]nonane-2, 9-dione (8) and tetrahy
dro-1-azaindan-3-ones (6, 7, 9 and 10) have been obtained from the rea
ctions of N-pyrrolidinocyclopentene (1), N-pyrrolidinocyclohexene (2),
N-pyrrolidinocycloheptene (3) and N-pyrrolidinocyclooctene (4) with t
he heterocyclic substrate 2-phenyl-4-benzylidene-5-oxazolone (5). A pl
ausible pathway has been proposed.
