Abstract
The solubility parameter delta of cellulose has been determined from p hase diagrams of solubility of cellulose acetate (CA) with different d egrees of substitution (DS), by extrapolating the intermediate values of delta for these acetates to zero DS. The solubility parameter of ce llulose was delta = 56.2 [delta(d) - 11.7 : delta(p) - 35.9 : delta(h) = 42.2 (J/cm3)1/2]. It was shown that the values of delta for cellulo se calculated theoretically, according to Small, Hoy, Van Krevelen and Fedors; methods, are much lower than the experimental values.
