Abstract
A study of graft co-polymerization of acrylonitrile onto jute fiber us ing Ce(IV) and toluene has been carried out. The effects of concentrat ion of monomer, Ce(IV) and toluene on graft yield have been studied. B esides, the effects of time, temperature, acid and organic solvent on graft yield have been investigated. Most remarkable feature of the inv estigation includes characterization of the grafted fiber by thermogra vimetric studies. Grafting has improved the thermal stability of the j ute fibers. Graft yield upto maximum of 76% has been obtained in the p resent investigation.
