Nitrite ion reacts with bis(dihydrogentellurato) copper(III) through i
nitial complex formation between the reactants in alkaline medium acco
rding to the equation k(obs) = kK[NO2-]/[OH-] + K[NO2-] (1) The rate i
ncreases with increase in [NaClO4]. The values of k and K are 1.60 x 1
0(-4) s-1 and 9.55, respectively, at 25-degrees-C. The values of DELTA
H-0 and DELTAS0 associated with the equilibrium step are 25 kJ mol-1 a
nd 102.7 J K-1 mol-1, whereas for the rate-determining step the values
of DELTAH(not-equal) and DELTAS(not-equal) are 72.4 kJ mol-1 and -74.
3 J K-1 mol-1, respectively.
