H. Kanatani et al., TRANSFORMATION OF SCHIZANDRIN INTO GOMISIN-A BY USE OF MICROBIAL O-DEMETHYLATION AND CHEMICAL-REACTIONS, Bioscience, biotechnology, and biochemistry, 58(6), 1994, pp. 1054-1057
The transformation of schizandrin (I) into gomisin A (TI) was accompli
shed by use of a combination of biotransformation and chemical reactio
ns. The biotransformation, microbial O-demethylation of I by Cunningha
mella Echinulata var. elegans (ATCC 9245) produced two novel metabolit
es [3-norschizandrin (IV) and 2-norschizandrin (VI)] and two known met
abolites [gomisin T (III) and 13-norschizandrin (V)]. Among those meta
bolites, compound III was derived to II by the O-demethylation with a
Lewis acid in the presence of an acid scavenger, followed by methylena
tion.
