Abstract
The potential risk factors for thyroid carcinoma development include g enetic predisposition, exposure to therapeutic or environmental ionizi ng radiation, residence in ares of iodine deficiency or excess, histor y or preexisting benign thyroid disease, as well as hormonal and repro ductive factors. In this review, we analyze some of the epidemiologica l data, as well as the possible molecular mechansims by which certain environmental and genetic factors might predispose to thyroid tumorige nisis.
