Abstract
The photoreactivity of 5-geranoxy psoralen (bergamottin) has been stud ied in toluene, methanol and acetonitrile. In all cases, a 1:1 mixture of trans and cis intramolecular cycloadducts between the 3,4 pyrone d ouble bond and the geranyl terminal alkene was isolated. The conformat ion of these two photocycloadducts is discussed in relation to MM2 cal culations and nuclear Overhauser effect (NOE) experiments.
