J. Beddoes et al., HIGH-TEMPERATURE COMPRESSION BEHAVIOR OF NEAR GAMMA-TITANIUM ALUMINIDES CONTAINING ADDITIONS OF CHROMIUM OR TUNGSTEN, Materials science & engineering. A, Structural materials: properties, microstructure and processing, 184(1), 1994, pp. 120000011-120000015
The isothermal constant-strain-rate compression behaviours between 900
and 1200-degrees-C and between 10(-1) and 10(-1) s-1 of near gamma-Ti
Al alloys containing Cr or W are compared. At low strains the strain r
ate sensitivity exponent of TiAl + Cr is higher than that for TiAl + W
, but the latter exhibits less cracking after compression to about 0.7
5 true strain. This is related to the larger area fraction of beta pha
se in TiAl + W, preventing coarsening of dynamically recrystallized gr
ains during compression.
