Till now desalination processes are all physical methods in which wate
r is taken out, leaving behind the scales of unchanged soluble salts i
ntact. The presence of only about 3-5 % of dissolved salts constitutes
hardness in seawater. The Yathrib system is a recent electrochemical
separation method to chemically remove dissolved salts from seawater.
Seawater --> conditions of seawater, a physical method by electrolyzer
--> produces NaOCl and others --> First chemical treatment by NH4OH -
-> H2O + ppt + gas up + carry over HOCl --> ppt separated --> H2O + ca
rry over elements (HOCl and others). Second chemical treatment by HCI
--> H2O + gases --> After filtration through resin column --> pure wat
er is taken out.
