Major reproductive problems seen in miniatures and the author's method
for handling them are discussed. Miniature horses have been a part of
his practice for over 10 years. Their popularity and value have incre
ased significantly over that period. Many practitioners have requested
advice concerning their examination and treatment. As with any unusua
l breed, however, other practitioners are sometimes reluctant to get i
nvolved, possibly due to inadequate time for learning new and necessar
y techniques. From the author's experience, those equine practitioners
are missing opportunities to open a new area of practice with clients
who are usually very receptive to quality veterinary care, due to sub
stantial investment in their horses. These miniature horse owners have
the potential for becoming faithful clients.
