Dm. Heery et al., A SEQUENCE FROM A TRYPTOPHAN-HYPERPRODUCING STRAIN OF CORYNEBACTERIUM-GLUTAMICUM ENCODING RESISTANCE TO 5-METHYLTRYPTOPHAN, Biochemical and biophysical research communications, 201(3), 1994, pp. 1255-1262
A cloned DNA fragment containing the trp gene cluster from the tryptop
han-hyperproducing strain Corynebacterium glutamicum ATCC21850 was fou
nd to increase the resistance of Escherichia coli to the tryptophan an
alogs 5-methyltryptophan and 6-fluorotryptophan. A sequence sufficient
to mediate resistance to 5-methyltryptophan in E. coli was mapped to
a 582-bp sequence located immediately upstream of the C. glutamicum fr
p operon. The equivalent fragment from the related wild type strain C.
glutamicum AS019 was found to contain sequence differences at two pos
itions and had no effect on the sensitivity of E. coli to 5-methyltryp
tophan. (C) 1994 Academic Press, Inc.
