The paper has presented a method for minimizing copper loss of wound-r
otor induction motor using series resonance tank in series with the ro
tor circuit. When an external circuit is connected in series with the
rotor circuit, the values of the circuit's parameters which ensures mi
nimum copper loss at any desired speed are computed. The computations
are performed for both a fixed and a continuously-varying capacitance
with respect to rotor speed. It has been found that the later case is
better than the former. The optimization technique is then generalized
to allow the motor to be driven from a variable frequency source.
