Aa. Alhomaidan, WATER CHEMISTRY AND ALGAL VEGETATION OF RESERVOIRS IN SOUTHWESTERN SAUDI-ARABIA, Journal of the University of Kuwait. Science, 21(1), 1994, pp. 51-60
Water chemistry and algal vegetation of five reservoirs in south-weste
rn Saudi Arabia were surveyed in August 1991. The waters were slightly
alkaline with varying levels of nutrients. Inorganic nitrogen concent
rations were high at all sites. The ratio of monovalent to divalent ca
tions was not especially high. Micronutrient levels were high at certa
in locations. Green algae were found at all sites and dominated by the
three orders Chlorococcales, Cladophorales and Zygnematales. Blue-gre
en algae were found at all but one site; certain species were restrict
ed to a particular location.
