Abstract
Current-biased 4.3-mum Bi films give an anomalous photoresponse when t hey are illuminated with 20-ns 1.064-mum laser pulses. The films resis tivity decreases during irradiation. This observation excludes a simpl e bolometric process as a cause for the induced transients and support s the prediction of a previously reported model which required the opt ical pumping of carriers into a metastable band.
