Corrosion prediction is an important element in the planning of work o
ver of producing oil and gas wells as well as in materials selection f
or new pipelines. The results of predictions may have a large economic
impact on projects in the conceptual phase of design, and hence a bea
ring on the economic viability of the projects. Over the last few year
s, there has been increasing interest in the development of prediction
tools and computer modelling techniques, particularly for application
s in offshore production of oil and gas. This paper review the current
thinking with regard to the developments and application of various c
omputer-based models for use in the prediction of materials performanc
e in crude oil production environments.
