Abstract
Superelastic electron scattering from laser-excited Yb-174 is used to measure the L(perpendicular-to+) electron impact coherence parameter f or excitation of the 6P-3(1) level at intermediate impact energies. Th is is the first application of the superelastic scattering technique t o the determination of coherence parameters for excitation of an atomi c level in which spin-orbit coupling plays a non-negligible role.
