Abstract
We use the finite element method to evaluate different capsulotomy tec hniques. Nucleus expression was simulated in a computer model to visua lize stress distribution in the anterior capsule. The finite element m odel demonstrated that the capsulorhexis edge is strong because of low and uniform stress distribution in the tissue. With can-opener and en velope capsulotomies, areas of high stress accumulation create the ris k of tears during surgery.
