Redox mechanism of oxygen insertion into acrolein upon its oxidation b
y molecular oxygen on PMo12O38.5 catalyst has been studied. The latter
is the product of thermolysis of the series 12 molybdophosphoric hete
ropolyacid. The heat of oxygen adsorption on the catalyst surface was
measured by calorimetry as a function of catalyst reduction by carbon
oxide. The value amounted to 72.5+/-2.5 kcal/mol O2 and did not depend
on the reduction degree, which was about 3.5 oxygen monolayers.
