Abstract
Using polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis we have often encountered a d ecrease in the high molecular weight polymers of haptoglobin 2-1 in th e serum of patients after transfusion and with hemolytic diseases. Usi ng two-dimensional affinity electrophoresis we have attributed this ph enomenon to the high affinity of high molecular weight polymers of the haptoglobin 2-1 for hemoglobin.
