Abstract
Sufficient conditions are obtained for the global asymptotic stability of solutions to the vorticity equation for a forced barotropic viscou s fluid on a rotating sphere. The Sundstrom's requirements to the smoo thness of the basic solution are weakened here, which makes it possibl e to apply these conditions to a wider class of the solutions, for exa mple, modons, having continuous derivatives up to the second order onl y.
