PSYCHIATRIC ONSET IN STRIATONIGRAL DEGENERATION

Psychiatric symptoms may herald neurological impairment in Striatonigr al Degeneration (SND) producing problems in diagnosis. This case repor t describes a patient with SND presented as Major Depression. To our k nowledge, this is the first time this disease is reported as presentin g a purely psychiatric onset. Some probable pathophysiological mechani sms involved in the etiology of these symptoms are discussed.
