The interaction of Nd-Fe-B-type alloys with hydrogen gas was investiga
ted for different alloy additions (Nb,V,Ga) and solidification microst
ructures. Using a thermopiezic analysis (TPA) system, the hydrogen con
tents of the alloys were determined as a function of temperature in th
e range 20-degrees-C-800-degrees-C. It was shown that such variations
are related strongly to the alloy composition and to the microstructur
e. From such data, it has been possible to obtain information on the p
hase distribution of the alloys samples.
