Abstract
The voltage induced in pickup coils by in general non-uniformly magnet ized samples of finite size, which vibrate with large amplitude in arb itrary direction, is calculated. A system for the measurement of the d ipole vector is proposed. Its minimum full scale range is 10(-7)Am2 fo r the z-component and it is optimized in order to suppress octupole co ntributions. The errors of sample displacement and of misaligned vibra tion axis are well below 1 %.
