The reaction of mesitoyl- and (2-methylbenzoyl)tris(trimethylsilyl)sil
ane with 1 equiv. of a silyllithium gave silicon analogs of lithium en
olates. Hydrolysis of the lithium silenolates afforded hydrosilanes in
high yields. The lithium silenolates can be readily transformed into
silenes quantitatively, by treatment with a chlorosilane.
