G. Moffat et al., SELECTIVE SEPARATIONS IN ENVIRONMENTAL AND INDUSTRIAL-PROCESSES USINGMAGNETIC CARRIER TECHNOLOGY, Minerals engineering, 7(8), 1994, pp. 1039-1056
The use of magnetoprocessing techniques in conjunction with magnetic s
upports for selective separations of colloidal particles, macromolecul
es and organics, on a industrial scale is reviewed. A specific case is
presented illustrating liquid phase mass transfer enhancements attain
able using a novel magnetoprocessing technique, the magnetically stabi
lised fluidised bed reactor (MSFBR). Results showed that a more than f
ive-fold increases in liquid throughput could be achieved when a curre
nt of 40A was applied to a bed of magnetite/carrageenan gel beads. The
paper emphasises potential magnetoprocessing applications for selecti
ve separations in mineral, biological and effluent treatment processes
