Ss. Wolf et al., MALFORMATIONS OF THE SEPTUM-PELLUCIDUM - 2 DISTINCTIVE CASES IN ASSOCIATION WITH SCHIZOPHRENIA, Journal of psychiatry & neuroscience, 19(2), 1994, pp. 140-144
Two patients with schizophrenia had markedly abnormal neuroimaging stu
dies; one was found to have a large, cystic cavum vergae, while the ot
her demonstrated complete agenesis of the septum pellucidum with a mon
oventricular system. The increased prevalence of developmental abnorma
lities of midline forebrain structures in patients with schizophrenia
suggests that dysgenesis of these structures may be contributory to th
e neurobiology of schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders.
