Temperature-dependent X-ray diffraction exhibits that the J-aggregates
in crystals of bis-(dimethylamino)-heptamethinium perchlorate contrac
t unusually strong at low temperature. The intermolecular distance bet
ween the dye cations is reduced from 354 pm at room temperature to 336
pm at 30 K. The results are an important due for the explanation of u
nusual temperature dependence of collective phenomena of J-aggregates.
