Abstract
The density functional formalism was used to investigate the electroni c properties of a monolayer of lead deposited on a Ag(111) electrode. Both the linear and the non-linear response of the surface electrons t o an electrostatic field have been calculated. The presence of a monol ayer of lead is expected to enhance the signal observed in second harm onic generation spectroscopy.
